Fashion Inspiration

I was just thinking about the shows that have inspired me the most. I have loved fashion for as long as I can remember, and some collections have really inspired me. I remember for example the Dolce & Gabbana FW 09/10 collection. I don't know if it was the first Dolce & Gabbana collection I watched, but I just remember it as the one who made me love the brand. I am now officially a fan of Stefano and Domenico's work. I remember almost all the details of the collection: the puffed sleeves, the shades of pink, the gloves in the hair and of course, the Marilyn Monroe dress. I have also been very impressed my the FW 10/11 Louis Vuitton collection, inspired by the 1950's. The main reason why I felt in love with this collection the first time I watched it is because I have a very vintage soul. I often say that I am nostalgic of a time I've never lived through. I especially love the 1920's and 1950's, but I am also really inspired by the XVIIIth century. These are the two collections that learnt me what love at first sight was. After this, I've been pretty inspired by other collection, but more by designers themselves. When I discovered Christian Lacroix, I was amazed by his work of art. Same for John Galliano. These two designers are amazing artists that consider fashion as a real art, and that treat  every piece of clothing as if they were canvases.

Galliano's Egyptian soul

The return of Cleopatra

I will never get tired of writing about John Galliano's collections because they are truly beautiful and inspiring. While watching his shows, I noticed that Galliano must particularly loves Egypt's story. He indeed presented a collection in 1997 named "The return of Cleopatra" in which models such as Naomi Campbell participated. The beginning of the collection is rather modern, kind of old school - only the hairstyle can remind us of Cleopatra. But as we go along the show, the outfits become much more traditional. We gradually enter the Egyptian world. Mini skirts, jackets and hats are replaced by long golden dresses and lots of jewels. Galliano knows how to bring us little by little in his Egyptian fantasy, without imposing it brutally to us.

Egyptian collection

The spring summer 2014 Dior collection was also inspired by Egypt - the egyptian mythology more than its famous queen. Galliano presented this collection after a trip to the country. It's a model dressed as a pharaoh who opens the show. She's all dressed in gold, wears pastiche - beard - and a headdress that can remind of Neferiti's. A totally Egyptian look that gives us already the shade of the show. I find the make up and especially the accessories very interesting, for they truly represent the Egyptian mythology. It is history in fashion. Some Egyptian Gods are also frequently represented: we can find Isis - goddess of health, marriage and love; Anubis - god of the dead; and more. The uraeus - cobra - which is an Egyptian symbol, also appeared a couple of times in the collection.
This show is the contrary of the first one: it starts heavily with a lot of references to Egypt, and finishes huge dresses and amazing make-up that don't remind us that much of the country and its stories. Yet the extravagance of the outfits are not gone and we can appreciate Galliano's designs until the end.

Christian Lacroix Brides

I always say that Christian Lacroix is the God of Haute Couture, and I truly believe it. His - mostly haute couture - collections are one of my biggest inspirations in fashion. I admire how Lacroix assumes his origins through them, giving to each outfit a part of him. That's why I think that only him could have designed the clothes of his collections and no one else. I really regret the fact that he couldn't keep on working on his brand which is one of my favorite.
Here are the wedding dresses Lacroix designed, from the 1990's to "today". All of them are, in my opinion, spectacular and have been worked on with a lot of precision and passion.
